What is VETIT Project?
The main aim of the VETIT project is the development of new, sustainable cooperation structures on WBL and apprenticeships in the IT sector, through capacity building, the transfer of knowledge and the exchange of practices and experiences from pioneer countries in the field to less experienced, through the establishment of a partnership consisting of local authorities, VET providers, and IT SMEs from Denmark, the UK and Greece, as well as sectoral/professional organizations as associated partners, as associated partners.
VETIT is designed with a focus on local and regional dimension in order to produce concrete and sustainable results on the ground, and is thus linked with local and regional policies, while fully conforming to the EU Policy Agenda. Quantitative evidence shows that within the group of graduates from upper secondary education, graduates from VET programmes have better employment prospects (Cedefop 2012). Additionally, the EU Agenda for New Skills and Jobs outlines that the demand for digital technology professionals has grown by 4% annually in the last ten years. Yet digital skills are lacking in Europe at all levels. Despite continued strong employment growth, the number of unfilled vacancies for ICT professionals is expected to almost double to 756.000 by 2020. According to Cedefop, ICT professionals are among the most demanded workers in the EU.
As a response to the gaps, needs and challenges identified above, the VETIT project brings together local authorities, VET providers, and IT SMEs from Denmark, the UK and Greece, as well as sectoral/professional organizations as associated partners, in order to develop new, sustainable cooperation structures on WBL and apprenticeships, through capacity building, the transfer of knowledge and the exchange of practices and experiences.
